Welcome to The Bead Scene Studio Workshop Programme Spring / Summer 2012 collection. Below are outlined the workshops we are presenting to you this season. All the work models are on display at the studio, so please come in and check them out.

 

The workshop times vary with some full day workshops and summer schools also taking place. The techniques will be beading, stitching and craft, designed to give as much choice as possible.

This bold statement piece is reminiscent of geometric Art Deco designs in jewellery. It is worked as individual rectangles in seed beads in peyote stitch embellished with some larger beads to build up the bracelet length. Make this in the colours of your choice.

Ther will be a small charge for the use of the porcian inks

 

Create a lovely book cover, or a beautiful piece of lacy embellished fabric to use later for something else. The starting point involves manipulating white fabrics and lace and securing into place with machine stitch. The piece is then coloured using procion dyes. After lunch students continue with embellishing and the piece is cut and lined and made into a book cover.

A list of materials will be provided before the day and the tutor will be selling Lutrador, Muslin and Lace for those who need it on the day.

The course will focus on making jewellery from beads and wire. Rather than using threads to make earrings, bracelets and necklaces, students will be learning to manipulate jewellery making wires.

You will learn the basic techniques for linking beads to form chains, learn how to make some findings and learn how to decorate beads with wires.

All tools will be provided by the tutor, but do bring any tools, beads or even broken bead jewellery that you have.

Intricately patterned kite-shaped segments are worked in brickstitch in several coloures of seed beads. This is a six week course and each week we will look at a new stumpwork technique, using flowers and bugs as our inspiration. a chance to learn new stitches and use interesting materials. You will need to bring half a metre of calico or silk. 4" and 6" hoops, 6 strand cotton thread in flower colours.

Create beautiful landscape using white fabrics, lace and paper. There are so many different white materials and so using just one colour makes for an interesting change. The finished piece can be mounted and put in front of a light source which will give the piece another dimension! A handout with some suggested stitches to create texture will be given to each student and a demo of how to do them. a list of fabrics etc..will be provided before the day and some fabrics can be purchased on the day.

A rather different necklace composed of three circular mandalas are created in seed beads, each worked from the centre outwards in peyote stitch followed by netting and embellished around the edge with sparklind Swarovski crystals. The seperate neckstrap is a double strand of right angle weave with more crystals, fastening at the front with two peyote stitch toggles.

Spend 3 days learning how to make this lovely gaming bag. 

Day 1 - Will take us through how to transfer the design onto fabric and start a stitching sample. 

Day 2 - Will finish the stitching of the flowers, look at the construction of the bag and how to add bling to it. 

Day 3 - Will finish the construction of the bag and add beaded tassels.

You will need half a metre of silkdupion and threads to stitch plus a 6" hoop.

Mountmellick is a traditional hand embroidery technique, which both beautiful to look at and relaxing to do. If you are a newcomer to embroidery, mountmellick is an ideal technique with which to begin., as it employs many lovely stitches which are also used in other forms of embroidery. it is a white on white, highly textured technique develpoed in Ireland during the 19th century.

We begin by looking at different curtain designs and fabrics, progressing to making samples of interlined curtains with pencil pleat, goblet and hand sewn pinch pleat headings.
